Iron Dog Books has curated six Indigenous authors to read their books under the canopy of the Cedar Grove. All readings are family-friendly so bring your little ones!
In order of appearance:
-Kung Jaadee, belonging to X̱aayda (Haida), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Tlingit, Tsleil-Waututh Nations, and is also part Hawaiian, reads I Am Connected, Gifts from Raven
-Eldon Yellowhorn of Piikani Nation reads a selection about Pauline Johnson from his book Ours To Tell: Reclaiming Indigenous Stories
-Haida/Settler Sara Florence Davidson reads Returning to the Yakoun River
-Lynda Gray, member of the Gisbutwada (Killerwhale) Clan of the Nation and the community of Lax Kw’alaams, reads from her educational primer First Nations 101, as well as selections from her next unreleased book
-Anishinaabe author and Wasauksing First Nation member Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley reads from his book The Trickster Shadow
-Joseph Dandurand of Kwantlen First Nation reads from his book The Bear and the Magic Masks

Ahead of their festival finale concert on Sunday night, join Steve Wood and members of the renowned powwow group Northern Cree for a workshop to share stories about traditional music and teachings of the drum, followed by an audience Q&A.
All are welcome, open to all ages.

Join Les George, the 2023 VPL Indigenous Storyteller in Residence, for a fun and interactive session of traditional songs and stories.
Les will tell a story about the legendary səlilwətaɬ chief Waut-Salk and share some traditional songs and drumming.
All are welcome, but this session is especially great for families and children ages 5-12.

Musqueam-Chinese Elder Larry Grant will give a reading of his new book, Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong, a personal and historical story of identity, place, and belonging.
There will also be a moderated discussion led by co-author Scott Steedman.
